日本語の特徴について

授業でBritishとAmericanの違いについて少し教えてもらった。
The volunteer teacher who is a student of Flinders university told us some differences between British English and American English in extra class last Wednesday.

広東語は15個のアクセントがあるらしい。
She also told us that Kantonese has fifteen accents.

大学で少し勉強した中国語(北京の方言だったらしい)のアクセントは4つだったので驚いた。
I have studied Mandarin Chinese for a year, which has four accents, and I was surprised to hear she said.

そして、日本語の特徴について聞かれた。
And then, I was asked the features of Japanese language.

地域によって訛りや方言があると答えたが、もう少し考えてみよう。
I answered that there are some different accents and slangs in each region at the moment. However, let me think about this topic furthermore.

英語は同じ発音で綴りと意味が違う単語がある。例えばsea&see。
Although some English words have different spelling and means, their pronounciations are same. For example, 'sea' and 'see' are so that.

日本語はどうか? 石と意思はアクセントが違うが同じ発音。
(他には雨と飴、雲と蜘蛛など)
How about Japanese language ? The difference between stone and will is appropriate example. Both of them are pronounced same sound 'isi', but these words have each accent. If you stress the first syllable, this word means a will. In contrast, if you don't put any accents, this word means a stone.

しかし、紙と髪は同じ発音で同じアクセントをもつ。
Interestingly, in Japanese language, paper and hair have same sound and accent. Japanese call them 'kami'.

「かみ切った??」 の意味は文脈から判断するしかないけど、別段難しくは無いだろう。
If you are asked whether you cut 'kami' or not, you would determine that mean in context. But, I think it's easy for everyone.

日本語には英語と似た部分もあるようだ。
In conclusion, there are some similarities between Japanese and English.

次はこの違いについて説明しようと思う。
I would like to try to explain this difference in next opportunity.
