オーストラリアに一年行ってみて、英語を勉強する上で何が重要なのか、自分なりの勉強法を思いついているので、忘れないうちに記録しておこうと思う。

I would like to record how to learn English language, which is the original way. I understand what important things are after staying in Australia.

今日は全体的なこと。

This time, I introduce a general way.

外国人と話しているとき、当然だが使用される全ての単語をお互いが知っているとは限らない。

It would be often happened that my friend could not understand what I said because my friend did not know the every word I used.

その時にその単語を如何に簡単な英語で説明するか、これが重要だ。

It is very important thing to explain it with easier words at the situation.

台湾人の友だちと路面電車の駅で話していた時、暑いから日陰に行こうと言った。

When I talked with Taiwanese friend at the tram station, I suggested him to move into the shade. This is because it was sunny and hot.

が、彼は日陰という単語を知らなかった。

However, he did not the meaning of shade.

その時、影を指差しながら、この黒い形のやつだよ～と説明した。

I explained it by point out the shade and said it was this black shape.

英語科目が始まる中学生は、ある程度単語を覚えたら英英辞典を使用する癖を付けた方が良いだろう。

I recommend to get habit using Engish dictionaries like Oxford if you remembered general words. 

TOEIC S&W テストについて

TOEICのSpeaking＆Writingの試験を受けてきた。

I had a TOEIC exam last Sunday, which was a test for speaking and writing skills in English.

パソコンを使って試験を受けるのだが、わざわざ大分から博多まで行った。

Although it used a PC, I took the trouble to go to Hakata from Oita.

パソコン使うんだから、どこでも受けれるようにできるやろ…と思ったが、なるほど、受験生は20人弱でLitening＆Readingの試験に比べると少ない。

I thought we could have it no matter where we lived, but the number of candidates were less than 20.  It was clearly lower than TOEIC for listening and reading test.

毎月試験を受けることができるのだが、試験回数を減らせば一回あたりの受験生は増えるので、会場を増やすことは可能ではないか。というのは今回の日記に関してはどうでもいい提言である。

We can have it every month, so it is supposed that they could increase the places if they reduced the number of exam. Anyway, I do not mention it this time.

試験形式について。Speakingがまずあり、それが終わったらWritingの試験に移る。

I introduce about its form. At first, we had the speaking test. After that we had the writing test.

受験生に各一台パソコンが与えられているので、それぞれのペースで進行する。

I could take my time for the exam because there were PC for each candidate.

それぞれ100点の計200点満点で、120点取れば基礎力完成とされる。

It is recognized to have basic business English communication skill if you had a score of 120 out of 200.

手ごたえとしては100点いけばいいほうだと思うが、80点てとこだろう…。

I wish I would get 100. I honestly estimate I got 80.

問題が難しいというのではなく、本格的な実力を求められる。

I feel the contents were not so difficult to answer but I need the practical skills to get higher score.

業務上の問題を聞き取った後、60秒間で解決策を提案したり、30分間で300単語のエッセイを書いたり。

I needed to catch a problem and answer its solution in 60 seconds. In adition, I needed to write an essay of 300 words in 30 minutes.

写真の簡単な描写からビジネス関連の話題まで。

The description of a picture was not difficult, but the business topic was a little bit difficult.

特に難しいと感じたのが、自分の意見を述べる形式の問題だ。

Especially, the discription of my opinion was so difficult.

Speaking、Writingともにこの形式の問題はあるのだが、最も重要なのは与えられたトピックに関するアドリブを利かせること。

It is most important that I immediately deel with a specific situatuion both speaking and writing.

自分が回答しやすいポイントを予め用意しておくのが定石だと思うが、これが難しい。

I need to prepare the some templates to answer quickly, but it is not so easy.

前回のテストでは仕事中の服装について意見を述べたのだが、まぁ考えがまとまらない。

I could not finish making my idea in time when I stated about the business uniform, which was a topic of last exam.

興味がないことに関して意見を求められても、日本語でも回答できないのに英語でできるわけがない。

I could not answer it even in Japanese because I was not interested in such topic.

もっと練習が必要だ。

More practice is in need.

Australian Butterfly Sanctuary@Cairns

When I visited the Kuranda in Cairns last September, I went to Australian Butterfly Sanctuary as well as the rainforest. It was the most largest butterfly park in Australia, which kept a wide range of butterflies. The number of speceis is over 1,500. Especially, the Ulysess Butterfly is fabulous.

9月、ケアンズのキュランダに行った時にバタフライサンクチュアリーという熱帯の蝶を飼っている公園に行きました。オーストラリアで最大の蝶園とのこと。1,500種以上のの種類を飼っているらしく、ウリシスというのは特に美しかった。

This is the gate of Australian Butterfly Sanctuary. The Ulyssess Butterfly is emphasyzed so that its picture is painted at the centre. It is supposed to be the one of the most popular butterflies in Australia.

バタフライサンクチュアリの門。一番人気のあるウリシスが真ん中に描かれている。

A butterfly which wings are green and yellow is on a leef. 

黄色と緑の羽を持つ蝶です。

This is the Ulysses Butterfly. Actually, it was so difficult to take a photo of that because they did not stay on the leeves longer.

ウリシスは常に飛び回っていたので、いい感じの写真を撮るのが難しかった・・・。

ダーリンハーバー＠シドニー

I went to Darling Harbour at Sydney last August. Darling Harbour used to be a trading port, but it is a commercial site int these days. It is located western Sydney, and it is popular for visitor who want shopping. 

8月にシドニーにあるダーリンハーバーへ行った。ここはかつては貿易港として栄えたが、現在は商業エリアだ。シドニー西側に位置し、観光客のショッピングスポットとして人気になっている。

In the background, there is a Ferris wheel which was not so big one. 

向こう側にはそれほど大きくない観覧車があった。

This district was under conatruction at the moment. They want to expand more.

依然として工事中で、エリアを拡大しているらしい。

We can cross this bridge to go to the other side of harbour. Many flags were standing on the each side of this bridge.

橋を渡って対岸を行き来できます。旗が掲げられていて雰囲気いいですね。

ギリシャフェスティバル＠アデレード

Today I would like to share these pictures which I took at the Greek Festival in Adelaide last November. The Greek Festival is annual festival by Greek people who live in South Australia. We can learn Greek culture. 

今日は去年の11月にあったギリシャフェスティバルの写真です。サウスオーストラリア州のアデレードに住むギリシャ人が年に一回、自国の文化を紹介しています。

It was held at the large park.

広い公園でありました。

Lam, beef and chicken were grilled with big cookers. I and my friends ate Gyros which is the Greek cuisine. Some slices of meat such as beef, lam, chicken etc are wrapped with vegetables. It was luscious.

日本ではそんなに食べる機会がないけど、羊肉は人気です。炭火で焼いたラムや牛肉、鶏肉を野菜と一緒にピタのような生地で巻いたものをイロスといいます。一緒に行った友だちと食べましたが、もちろんおいしかった。

There were some sign boards about Greece. I did not know that lol. I thought even 180 should be larger than I thought.

こんな看板がいくつかあり、知られざるギリシャの秘密が明らかになります(笑) 180でも結構多いっしょ。

訳：ギリシャには3,000以上の島があるけど、その内180島しか人が住んでいない、って知ってた？

At this stage some events were taken. For example, there were the Greek dance show, live music and so on. I am impressed the smashing plates that is a traditional Greek custom. 

ステージではダンスやバンド演奏などがあり、ギリシャの伝統であるお皿を割る行事が印象的だった。

カカドゥ国立公園

These are pictures I took at Kakadu National Park in Darwin. Darwin is the top end of Australia. The weather is the tropical zone because it is near the equator. Kakadu National Park is one of the world heritages in Australia. 

今日はカカドゥ国立公園の写真。カカドゥはオーストラリアの北端にあるダーウィンの近くにある。赤道近くのため熱帯だ。カカドゥは世界遺産のひとつです。

I joined the river cruise tour which was so comfortable. Good weather and gentle breezes gave me peaceful mood. I highly recommend to experience that if you would visit there.

川くだりのツアーに参加した。天気もいいし、風も心地よくていい気分。このツアーはおすすめだ。

Because of wild crocodiles, we cannot swim in the river. Sometimes people get attacked by wild crocs at other places such as sea coasts.

野生のワニが出るんで泳いじゃいけません、なんて看板もある。他の海沿いでは野生のワニに襲われる人もいる。

You could probably meet wild crocs during the cruising. You do not upset at all because they usually are quiet.

クルージングでは野生のワニも見れます。パッと見、大人しいので襲われることはないでしょう。

ケアンズのキュランダ鉄道

These pictures were taken at Kuranda where is the oldest rainforest in the world in Cairns. Cairns has two seasons which are wet season and dry season. Between October and March is wet season. I stayed Cairns last September for a month and visited some places. For this time, I would like to introduce the Kuranda scenic railway.  It is operated between the central of Cairns and Kuranda station.

ケアンズにある世界で最も古い熱帯雨林と言われているキュランダに行った時の写真です。ケアンズには雨季と乾季があり、だいたい5月から10月くらいは雨季になります。僕は9月から一ヶ月ほど滞在し、あっちゃこっちゃ行ってきました。今回はキュランダ鉄道について紹介します。この鉄道はケアンズの中心部とキュランダを結んでいます。

I took this picture when the railway went across a bridge. This scene is often used for pictures of visitor information flyers.

橋を渡っている途中で撮影しました。観光案内にもよく使用される景色です。

We could see some big waterfalls from the railway.

滝とかちょこちょこあります。

Green two ants were fighting each other.

緑色の蟻がけんかしていたり。
