Meals On Wheels
三月にMeals On Weels というボランティア活動に参加した。
I participated in Meals On Wheels as a volunteer staff last March.
日本で言うと自宅まで配達する給食センターみたいなものだ。
In Japan, it likes a school lunch program which is included delivery to each house.
50年以上の歴史があり、100近くの支店がある。
This service has started since 1954. Now, the number of branches is about a hundred which are located in South Australia.
政府からの補助金や寄付で成り立っている給仕支援サービスで、利用者は高齢者や障がい者を中心とした人たちだ。
This food support service is assisted by government grants and donation. Clients are older people and disabilities.
オーストラリアではこういった団体をよく見かけ、大型のショッピングセンターには寄付を募集している人がいる。
There are many organizations like this in Australia. I often find staff who correct donation at shopping centres.
工場で作られた料理が容器に入って各支店に届けられ、支店でスープや容器を温めて配達する。
Most of meals are made at factories and delivered to each branch. They make containers warm before delivery.
支店はmanager以外はボランティアスタッフによって支えられている。
Every staff of branches are volunteer excepted a manager.
僕はスープをパウチから鍋に移して温めたり、各配送ルートごとのカバンに容器を入れたりした。
I put two pouches of soup into pots and made them warm, and put containers to bags of each deliver routes.
この支店の配送ルートは4つあり、毎日利用している人もいれば、週に2回利用している人もいる。
This branch has four routes to deliver. Someone gets meals everyday, someone gets twice a week.
配送にも同行して、他のボランティアに話を聞くと、もう10年以上このボランティアに参加している人もいた。
I followed to delivery and asked to other volunteers about them. Some volunteers have participated it for more than ten years.
このボランティアには学校を通して１ヶ月くらい前に申込みをした。
I applied to this volunteer work at the day before one month through English school teacher.
しかし、その後になって自分が引越す事になり、参加する支店を変えてもらった。
However, I needed to change the branch to go because I had changed the place to stay after application.
当日行ってみると、managerは何も知らされておらず、僕の登場に最初は動揺していた。
On the appointed day, that manager did not know anything about my participation. So, the manager looked worried at first.
というのも、その支店は他に比べると小さく、何年か前に学生ボランティアの受け入れを中止したのだそうだ。
That branch has stopped to accept any volunteer staff since several years ago because the branch is smaller than the others.
しかしながら、僕の参加を暖かく受け入れてくれたmanagerに感謝したい。
However, the manager accepted kindly to my participation. I would like to appreciate him and other volunteers.
